Fairbourne and Barmouth Steam Railway
The railway was originally laid in 1895 by Mr Arthur McDougall to transport building materials for the construction of Fairbourne village. For more than a centre the two and a half mile long Steam Railway has carried passengers between the village of Fairbourne and Penrhyn Point and then by ferry to Barmouth, providing an unforgettable experience for young and old alike.
Fairbourne Station
Fairbourne Station is the headquarters of the railway and has many attractions to keep the visitor happy whilst awaiting the train. Why not look around the well stocked shop, visit the engine sheds, see the wildlife in the Rowen Nature Centre or learn about the history of the line at the Railway Museum. There is also a delightful cafe on the platform for a range of hot and cold snacks and drinks.
The Railway Museum
Here you can see a display in words and pictures showing 100 years in the life of the Fairbourne Railway and its environment throughout various eras and owners. The display includes a model of the railway by Bob Morris.
