Portmeirion Village

For an excellent day out why not visit Portmeirion Village. The village is about 25 min's drive North from the log cabin on the A 470. It is a full day out for the family and will appeal to adults and children alike.

The fairy tale village of Portmeirion stands on a rugged cliff top on its own private peninsula overlooking Cardigan Bay on the coast of Snowdonia. It is surrounded by acres of sub-tropical woodlands and miles of sandy beaches. If you enjoy gardens then this is the place for you.

Portmeirion was built from 1925 to 1976 by visionary Welsh architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, who wanted to prove that development need not mean defilement.

One of the biggest claims to fame is that the cult T. V. series The Prisoner starring Patrick McTGoohan which had a blend of mystery and science fiction was made here. The village still looks as it did in the series.

The villages several cafe's are excellent value as are the eight different shops. It is also known for the Portmeirion Pottery, designed by Clough's daughter Susan Williams-Ellis.
